The Second Patshahi: Satguru Baba Ram Bhajan Sahib

There are certain divine souls who never seek the spotlight, yet the Almighty places them directly within it. Satguru Baba Ram Bhajan Sahib was one of these rare, luminous souls. Known in his early days of service simply as Ramoo, he did not come to Samadha Ashram seeking a title, recognition, or a position of power—he came only with a pure desire to serve.

The Devoted Sevadar

For many years, the devoted disciple lived quietly in the divine shadow of his beloved Master, Baba Har Bhajan Sahib. Every morning, long before the sun graced the sky, he would wake and begin his Seva. He gently watered the small garden where flowers bloomed for morning offerings, and carefully tended to the sacred Dhuni, ensuring the holy fire was always nourished with fresh wood. He welcomed every visitor—whether a wealthy merchant or a weary traveler—with the exact same loving respect, and took great care to preserve every word his Satguru wrote.

He never viewed himself as special; he was simply listening to the gentle calling of his heart. But his Satguru was watching. A true Master does not look for the loudest voice or the most educated follower. A Master looks for the purest heart—the one who serves with absolute devotion, expecting nothing in return.

In 1853, when Baba Har Bhajan Sahib entered Maha Samadhi, the immense responsibility of the Ashram fell upon his faithful disciple’s shoulders. He was formally crowned as Baba Ram Bhajan Sahib, the Second Patshahi of Samadha Ashram. Those who had spent years watching him sweep the dust from the floors now bowed deeply to seek his divine blessings.

The Ideal of the Udaseen Saint

As Satguru, Baba Ram Bhajan Sahib maintained the unbroken routine of Satsang, hospitalities, and daily Seva. He lived in a state of continuous, unceasing prayer—praising the Divine both verbally and within the depths of his mind.

He perfectly embodied the true ideal of an Udaseen saint, walking the sacred path of detachment established by the revered Baba Sri Chand Sahib. This was the very same wisdom taught by Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita: fulfilling one’s highest sacred duties without expecting anything in return.

Unmoved by worldly luxuries, Baba Sahib remained entirely detached from the physical realm. He cared little for the comforts of his bodily temple, devoting every breath to the care of his Sangat, the honoring of guests, and the remembrance of the Divine Name. He would become so completely absorbed in the ocean of divine love that he often transcended the need to eat for days at a time, requiring the devoted Sangat to gently remind their Satguru to nourish his physical frame. Whoever approached him with true faith and trust found complete spiritual peace.

An Eternal Promise to the Sangat

For fifty extraordinary years, Satguru Baba Ram Bhajan Sahib held the Gaddi of Samadha, serving day and night with unwavering devotion. In 1903, as a bright moon hung over Shikarpur, Baba Sahib knew the time had come to consciously withdraw his life force and return to the Supreme.

He called for his most devoted sevadar, Bhai Roopchand—a gentle soul who served the Ashram with the exact same quiet dedication that he himself had shown decades earlier.

Sensing the sacredness of the moment, Roopchand hurried to his Satguru’s side. In his hands, Baba Sahib held five rupees and a coconut. Placing these traditional offerings gently into Roopchand’s hands, Baba Sahib gracefully transferred his spiritual energy and lineage to his chosen successor, announcing:

“From now onwards, you shall be known as Baba Roop Bhajan Sahib. My spirit is ready to meet its Owner—God. Now you must take care of this Dhuni Sahib and all devotees. Stay always in praising and chanting the Name of God.”

Seeing the tears in his successor’s eyes, Baba Sahib offered a final, eternal promise that continues to echo through the generations:

“Don’t worry, my child. This Samadha Ashram carries the eternal blessings of Baba Har Bhajan Sahib, and this Gaddi will remain as long as the sun and moon shine in this universe. This Dhuni Sahib is medicine for all trouble-seeking people—anyone who comes with faith will find relief.”

In the quiet, early hours of dawn in 1903, Satguru 108 Baba Ram Bhajan Sahib consciously entered Maha Samadhi, peacefully merging his spirit with the Infinite. Today, over a century later, his promise remains untouched by time. The Gaddi of Samadha still stands, the Dhuni Sahib still burns as a source of healing, and seekers from all walks of life continue to receive the divine grace of the Satgurus.
