Satguru Baba
Har Bhajan Sahib

The Adi Guru & founder of Pooj Samadha Ashram, Shikarpur

SatGuru 108 Baba Har Bhajan Sahib was born in Amritsar, Punjab Province, in A.D. 1733. From a young age, he displayed a pure heart and deep care for others. Leaving his home during childhood, Baba dedicated himself to service in the Udaseen temples of Amritsar. During this time, he began traveling with Baba Karmajus, embarking on a path of spiritual growth.

A Journey Toward Divine Peace

SatGuru Baba Har Bhajan Sahib found great joy in discussions with Sufi mystics and saints. His spiritual quest eventually led him beyond Punjab to Sindh, crossing Sukkur and Rohri, and finally arriving at the cremation grounds of Shikarpur in 1776. Traditionally used for Hindu cremations, this serene and sacred place became his sanctuary.

Udaseen saints are known for their ascetic way of life, often seeking out quiet, solitary places such as cremation grounds or jungles to deepen their connection with the Divine. Baba Har Bhajan Sahib followed this tradition, living in silence and devoting himself entirely to God’s name.

During the reign of the Kalhoras, the presence of SatGuru Baba Har Bhajan Sahib became widely known across Sindh, drawing devotees from all communities. One winter, a carpet merchant named Seth Dawood came to present a beautiful carpet to Baba Sahib. However, seeing a dog shivering with her pups in the cold, Baba instructed Dawood to use the carpet to cover them. Deeply moved, Dawood obeyed. Pleased by this act of compassion, Baba blessed him, saying,

“Your tribe will increase and there will be no end.”

The Foundation of Samadha Ashram

As Baba Sahib’s divine presence became known, it extended beyond Shikarpur, reaching hearts across the entire Sindh Province, Devotees started building a simple hut for him, now known as Kutya Sahib. During the rule of the Kalhoras in Sindh, Baba’s following grew rapidly, and many people found solace and guidance in his teachings.

Baba Har Bhajan Sahib spent all his time in meditation, chanting God’s name. Baba Sahib always helped the poor and guided people through Satsang, teaching that God is one and that love for all beings is the highest virtue.

Shewadari Ramoo, later honored as Baba Ram Bhajan Sahib (the Second Guru), faithfully served as Baba’s disciple and caretaker. He managed the ashram’s guests, resources, and gardens, while also safeguarding the sacred texts handwritten by Baba Sahib. Under his devoted stewardship, the ashram blossomed into a vibrant center of spiritual service and devotion.

The Final Blessing

One day, Baba Sahib gathered his devotees and announced,

“My time has come to meet my Real God. From this day, my dear Ramoo will take care of Samadha Ashram.”

He bestowed the title of Baba Ram Bhajan Sahib upon Shewadari Ramoo, entrusting him with the ashram’s spiritual legacy. People of all faiths, who had found a guide in Baba Sahib, wept at the news of his departure. To comfort them, Baba said,

“Do not worry. The Dhuni Sahib will remain here to rid you of your troubles and fulfill your desires, but you must come with faith and trust.”

The Miraculous Departure

On Ekadashi in 1853, SatGuru Baba Har Bhajan Sahib attained liberation. During his final rites, a miraculous event occurred. As his body was being taken for cremation, a dispute arose between communities about whether to cremate or bury him. Amidst the argument, the handcart carrying Baba’s body became light. When they checked, the body was gone.

Returning to the ashram in confusion, the devotees were astonished to find Baba Sahib’s body there, as if it had never left. This divine act reaffirmed his eternal presence.
